Songs of Douglass and Littell is a new album by Inara George that revisits songs written over thirty years ago by her longtime friends Eliot Douglass and Philip Littell. Inara first met Philip as a child at the Theatricum Botanicum and later performed in his and Eliot’s work in the 1990s Los Angeles theater scene. Known for her folk-pop and indie projects—All Rise, Dearest Everybody, The Bird and the Bee, and The Living Sisters—she brings her clear, warm voice to these songs with a sound that blends her folk-pop roots with subtle jazz influences. Recorded live with orchestrations by Jeff Babko and production by Mike Andrews, Songs of Douglass & Littell, not only honors the creative bond between Inara, Eliot and Philip, but also brings these long-forgotten songs into the light—tenderly, joyfully, and with a sense of homecoming.

As joyful as I am to be celebrating my new album next week, it’s certainly not lost on me that these are incredibly challenging times. So many of our neighbors are suffering, which is why I wanted to make my release party a benefit for a worthy cause. @la__voice is a multi-racial, multi-faith community organization that works to awaken people to their own power by training them to speak, act, and work together to transform LA County into a place of equity and abundance for all. Their work has only increased in importance under the current administration. All proceeds from my @largolosangeles concert next Friday, March 20 will go to further their mission. Oh this weary world…. so today I thought I’d sing this beautiful song that’s so sweet and melancholy…and funny. I’ve always been a little confused as to who this song might be about. I don’t think I would choose to sing it to anyone. It seems so harsh. And then, just while I was learning the song on guitar(where I definitely took some liberties) I feel like I discovered something. Maybe this song is supposed to be sung to one’s self. Is it possible that this is a song about radical acceptance? I would never presume to know what Lorenz Hart was trying to get at with these lyrics, but for me, it sort of finally makes sense when I put it in this context. Maybe it’s really a song about loving yourself, despite all of your own perceived flaws. Sending Love and Peace Xoxoinara

“America” - “I wrote this song after a road trip I took with my children a few summers ago. As we drove through some of the most beautiful parts of the country, and then sometimes the most depressing highways filled with all of the same chain restaurants, it got me thinking about the past and the future of this country. I suppose it’s just a song about what freedom really means.” ~Inara

“Sex In Cars: Road Angel Project” - Inara teamed up with Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters for this duet version of the track “Sex In Cars” from her EP The Youth of Angst. This duet is the first in a series of “Road Angel Project” releases, with all proceeds going to the COVID-19 Relief Fund at Sweet Relief Musicians’ Fund.

“The Youth of Angst,” a collection of three tracks produced by Wendy Wang. “I wanted to write from the perspective of my younger self, but also with the idea that I could never actually have that perspective again. I suppose this bundle is nostalgic for a time and feeling that isn’t really possible to recreate, or only possible to recreate in my imagination.” ~Inara
